Our Approach

Having been an adult beginner herself, Joy of Music founder and director, Linda Fotis, designed the “It’s Never Too Late to Learn the Piano” course which is well known in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  Her passion for introducing new students - young and old -  to piano is reflected in the dedication and joy she brings to her studio and each one of her students.

Her time spent at the National Endowment for the Arts, Wolf Trap Opera Company and Dumbarton Concert Series solidified her commitment to local arts organizations and their impact on community life. Linda is known for her innovative programs including special events with the National Gallery of Art, pop up concerts at local venues and innovative recital programming.

Our Story

While studying Religion at Tufts University, Joy of Music founder and director, Linda Fotis, fell in love with the piano while on her way to Harvard Divinity School. She began her studies at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA and returned home to practice the piano five hours a day in her parent’s basement. Then, while pursuing her music degree at American University, she studied piano with the legendary Evelyn Swarthout Hayes.

In addition to Evelyn Hayes, Linda studied piano with Yuliya Gorenman, Lilliana Eluhow and Bonnie Kellert. She actively continues her Professional Development while belonging to MTNA, MCMTA, WMTA and MU PHI EPSILON.  She is ranked in the Top 20 piano teachers in DC and has received numerous educational grants.
